MOLECULES OF THE IMMUNE SYSTEM
The Nobel Prize in 1972 was awarded jointly to G.M. Edelman (USA) (on the left) and R.R. Porter (UK) for their research on the chemical structure of antibodies.
Primary structure - amino acid sequence.
Secondary structure - polypeptide chains (H and L).
Tertiary structure - domains (C and V).
Quaternary structure - the whole molecule of active antibody.
